Abdikadir D. Askar

Abdikadir Dayib Askar is an author of a Somali novel Kas & Karaan and a Chevening scholar who is now assuming the chairmanship of University of York’s Graduate Students’ Association  where he pursues his postgraduate studies.

Having earned an MA in International Relations and Diplomacy from Cavendish University, he has developed substantial research interest in international politics, and development sector. He holds a Postgraduate Diploma in Peace and Conflict Studies from the Institute of Peace and Conflict Studies (UoH), and he also graduated from Kampala International University with a degree in public administration.

With over ten years of demonstrable track-record in strategic communications and project management, he carried out creative communications campaign in post-conflict and transitional environments in the Eastern Africa region. Askar worked as a Communications Lead at Adam Smith International (ASI), an international consulting firm based in London for a couple of years. Before this role, he served at Oxfam’s Cross-border Project in Ethiopia and Somaliland as a Senior Communications and Documentation Officer. He managed Saxansaxo Radio- a local Somali radio program which  regularly promotes maternal and child health awareness.

Abdikadir has strong passion for communications and politics, and thus his desire for these fields can be traced back to his early schooling, where he spent significant time serving as a blogger, youth leader, social activist and political commentator. Outside of his work and study time, he enjoys reading novels, watches movies and closely follows news, opinions and analysis via  #ForeignAffairs, #Aljazeera, theDiplomat and #AfricanArguments.
